Chef Matt Kelly is a celebrated chef and restaurateur based in Durham, North Carolina. Known for his bold, ingredient-driven approach to regional cuisine, Chef Kelly has earned national acclaim for his work at award-winning restaurants including Mateo Bar de Tapas, Vin Rouge, Saint James Seafood, and Mothers & Sons. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Kelly is deeply committed to sourcing locally and honoring culinary traditions while pushing creative boundaries. His latest venture, Nana’s Rookwood, showcases his continued passion for hospitality and innovation.
A four-time James Beard Award semifinalist, Chef Kelly is renowned for putting North Carolina ingredients into foreign service—transforming them into Spanish tapas at Mateo, French bistro fare at Vin Rouge, Italian regional dishes at Mothers & Sons, and refined seafood at Saint James. With Nana’s Rookwood, he reimagines a local classic, paying homage to its roots while writing an exciting new chapter.
Chef Kelly has helmed numerous Chaîne dinners and is deeply attuned to our values of excellence, tradition, and culinary fellowship. This is the perfect event to bring friends or prospective members—Chef Kelly always delights and embodies the spirit of the Chaîne.
